HEABC is the accredited bargaining agent for most publicly funded health employers in the province. HEABC negotiates six major provincial agreements covering more than 115,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, health science professionals, physician residents and support workers. Workers provide services in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home support and community service agencies among many other work locations throughout British Columbia.
Specifically, the six agreements cover the following bargaining units:
- Ambulance Paramedics and Ambulance Dispatchers Subsector
- Community Subsector
- Facilities Subsector
- Health Science Professionals
- Professional Association of Residents
The current collective agreements for all five bargaining associations expire March 31, 2019. As part of the regular process in advance of an agreement expiring, HEABC and the Community Bargaining Association have agreed to begin negotiations for a renewed contract on May 14, 2018. Negotiations with the other bargaining association will begin over the next number of months.
Current agreements were reached under the provinces Economic Stability Mandate, which includes modest wage increases spread over the five-year term and an Economic Stability Dividend, which provides unionized employees with the opportunity to participate in the Province’s economic growth.
